Get Out of the Boat

peter and Jesus

It takes a leap of faith and courage to step outside of the comfort zone. Even if the comfort zone is uncomfortable, it is something that is familiar.

There are times God calls us away from what we know. He says, “Come here, I have something better.” I think we want what He has for us, but it requires us to let go of what we have clung to for so long. We perceive it as a loss to let go now, I mean after all… we came this far, lets hold on a little longer.

We resist change because what we think we have is all we know. Even if it is dysfunctional and unhealthy. It is like eating poison when we are hungry. We know the poison will kill us, but we give in to the hunger pangs. We reason at least it will fill our bellies, temporarily.

When God calls us out, He tells us to not be afraid. He tells us to not look around, look only to Him. He knows if we take our focus off Him we will become afraid and intimidated by the storms that rage around us. Don’t think for one minute there will not be a storm when He calls you to lay something down, no matter if its a person, a thing, or a situation.

Trust He will reach His hand out, grab it and don’t let go. Cuddle up next to Him and rest. Trust He will speak to that storm and there will be calm. Trust even more that in the storm you will have peace if you stay close to Him.

Matthew 14:22-33

Then He directed the disciples to get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent away the crowds. And after He had dismissed the multitudes, He went up into the hills by Himself to pray. When it was evening, He was still there alone.  But the boat was by this time out on the sea, many furlongs [a furlong is one-eighth of a mile] distant from the land, beaten and tossed by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch [between 3:00—6:00 a.m.] of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.  And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified and said, It is a ghost! And they screamed out with fright. But instantly He spoke to them, saying, Take courage! I Am! Stop being afraid! And Peter answered Him, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. He said, Come! So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, and he came toward Jesus. But when he perceived and felt the strong wind, he was frightened, and as he began to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me [from death]! Instantly Jesus reached out His hand and caught and held him, saying to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt? And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat knelt and worshiped Him, saying, Truly You are the Son of God!

Bruised Reeds

bruised-reed-he-will-not-break

And when I passed by you and saw you rolling about in your blood, I said to you in your blood, Live! Yes, I said to you still in your natal blood, Live!  I caused you [Israel] to multiply as the bud which grows in the field, and you increased and became tall and you came to full maidenhood and beauty; your breasts were formed and your hair had grown, yet you were naked and bare. Now I passed by you again and looked upon you; behold, you were maturing and at the time for love, and I spread My skirt over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I plighted My troth to you and entered into a covenant with you, says the Lord, and you became Mine. Then I washed you with water; yes, I thoroughly washed away your [clinging] blood from you and I anointed you with oil. I clothed you also with embroidered cloth and shod you with [fine seal] leather; and I girded you about with fine linen and covered you with silk. Ezekial 16:6-10

I am thankful He doesn’t leave us alone. In the mire of past wounds, sins committed against us and sins we have committed, He covers us.

We roll about in our pool of self-loathing, regret, bitterness, hurt, fear, and shame.  He kneels down, picks us up, washes us clean, restores us, and says, “Live!”

His gentle hands hold us as a broken reed, His strength and healing causes us to stand upright, He covers us with His grace, and presents us as His Beloved.

There is no shame and no need to hide yourself any longer. He sees beyond it all, He sees YOU. He will restore you. You see, what you have done, what has been inflicted on you… that is not you. You were fearfully and wonderfully made with purpose.

Beneath the blanket of injury is His little girl and just like He called to Lazarus, He says to you, “Come forth!” He is here, He is waiting for you. His arms are open and He will catch you. Fall into Him and He will lift you up.

Entrust yourself to His care, He is our Salvation and Deliverer.

In All Your Getting…

Wisdom

It is not a question of belief…
It is a question of what you believe.
We all believe in something, but if you really want change, then believe in truth.
If you have believed a deception for so long then you may have a hard time recognizing truth.

Wisdom cries aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the markets; She cries at the head of the noisy intersections [in the chief gathering places]; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:  How long, O simple ones [open to evil], will you love being simple? And the scoffers delight in scoffing and [self-confident] fools hate knowledge? Proverbs 1:20-22

The beginning of Wisdom is: get Wisdom (skillful and godly Wisdom)! [For skillful and godly Wisdom is the principal thing.] And with all you have gotten, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation). Proverbs 4:7

The Lord does not want you to be ignorant, He wants you to be FREE.

Pay attention to your thoughts. Hold your thoughts to light of Gods truth.

… whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]. Philippians 4:8

Do not get caught in the enemies snare. You may not feel the noose right away, but it will grow tighter and tighter and tighter… until you can no longer breathe. Eventually you will find yourself in such a dark place and you will question everything you believed in. You will be filled with doubt, insecurity, fear, bitterness, depression…

Are you there now?

Look to Jesus, He is the light and His light will dispel all darkness. Open your eyes and see, open your ears and hear.

The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent. Psalm 34:18

You know where you are. You know if you have been believing a lie. In your belly you know the truth. Turn and be healed. No matter how pretty, handsome, comfortable, a lie is; a lie is still a lie. There is no freedom in a lie.
